🏯 Quanzhen Temple in Qingcheng Mountain – A Living Taoist Holy Land

📜 History and Reconstruction

Quanzhen Temple, located midway up Qinglong Ridge in Qingcheng Mountain, Dujiangyan, Sichuan, is one of China's most sacred Taoist temples. Originally named Longju Temple, it was built during the Eastern Han Dynasty (25–220 AD) and became an important site for early Taoist practice and rituals.

In 1996, under the guidance of Taoist Master Fu Yuantian, the temple was reconstructed with the addition of Cihang Hall, Qizhen Hall, and the Five Ancestors Pavilion. It was officially renamed Quanzhen Temple. This restoration not only revived an ancient Taoist holy land but also created a spiritual sanctuary for modern believers seeking healing energy, Feng Shui blessings, and Taoist wisdom.

🏛 Architecture and Deities

  • Cihang Hall – Dedicated to Cihang Zhenren, the Taoist deity of compassion and salvation, worshipped as a protector in times of hardship.
  • Qizhen Hall – Honoring the Seven True Disciples of Wang Chongyang, founder of Quanzhen Taoism, such as Qiu Chuji and Ma Danyang, who spread Taoist teachings across China.
  • Five Ancestors Pavilion – Enshrining five patriarchs of Taoism, including Wang Xuanfu (Emperor of Donghua), Wang Chongyang, and Lü Dongbin, one of the most beloved Taoist immortals.

The temple’s architecture follows the natural contours of the mountain, reflecting the Taoist belief that sacred spaces should flow in harmony with nature and Feng Shui principles.

🌿 Landscape and Taoist Philosophy

Surrounded by tea plantations, flowing streams, and lush forests, Quanzhen Temple offers an atmosphere filled with fresh mountain air, birdsong, and the fragrance of nature. This peaceful environment makes it an ideal place for spiritual meditation, energy healing, and Taoist ritual practice.

The design embodies the Taoist philosophy of “Tao follows Nature”, teaching that true balance comes from living in harmony with the natural world. This philosophy continues to inspire those seeking spiritual guidance, protection, and prosperity.

🙏 Stories of Local Impact

Quanzhen Temple has long been integrated into community life, serving as more than just a place of worship:

  • ✨ Prayer & Healing – Locals visit to pray for health, wealth, and good fortune. One story tells of farmers who prayed during a drought and soon received rainfall, bringing a plentiful harvest.
  • 🤝 Mediation & Harmony – Taoist masters have historically resolved disputes between villages, promoting peace and social unity.
  • 🌍 Disaster Relief – After earthquakes and floods, the temple became a refuge for prayer, comfort, and shelter, offering hope and healing energy to those in need.
